The way immigrants had to live

Many immigrants came with little money and often were force in house that were in terrible conditions. With the rising of their population the city could not handle the effect of overcrowding that led to serious problems. Many cities had problems with sanitation leading to overflowing sewers, uncollected garbage, impure water and a general stench in the air. All this problems led to many diseases such as tuberculosis, epilepsy or mental impairments. However that wasn't the only problem they had to face, crime rates were increasing. Many native americans blamed the New Immigrants for the unsettling situation in the city and for taking over their nation. Because of all those problems congress began to pass legislation limiting immigration. After that moment immigrants started to feel that they had no rights. Some of them had to struggle alot because they had to work to support themselves and to support their families.
